- Eligibility for Consideration:
- A nominee may be male or female, living or dead, may be a United States citizen or from another country and may or may not be active in golf at the time of nomination.
- A nominee need not have been an outstanding player. The primary criterion shall be that individual's overall contribution to golf. That contribution may be measured by the individual's leadership and/or long serving participation in the following areas:
- Involvement in the Triple Cities Golf Association, or in other golf associations local, regional, statewide or national, or in organized golf clubs located in and around Broome County, New York, including, but not limited to past or present member clubs of the TCGA.
- Creating and nurturing golf competitions and tournaments for the promotion of the game of golf on the local, state, national or international level.
- Promoting golf and community service.
- Continued dedication to enhance the growth of golf.
- If nominated on the basis of his or her playing record only, it is recommended that nominations be considered on the basis of long-standing competitive success in organized competitions, local, state, national or otherwise.
- Conceptual Chronology:
- The TCGA shall invite participation in the nomination process by notification to all member clubs and all associations which have an involvement with golf, together with appropriate publicity. It is recommended that the TCGA and the committee, once appointed, recognize the history of golf in our area by structuring its consideration chronologically. One such suggestion would be the following:
- Early Days: From 1888, charter date of Broome County Golf Club (later BCC) to 1929
- Holding Days: From 1930 to 1945
- Modern Days: From 1946 to present
- Such a grouping or something developed along similar lines, could then reflect the contribution of those individuals who were responsible for the appearance of golf in the Broome County area as well as those who helped develop the growth of the game during those many years when its financial and statistical importance was minimal and the love of its participants was the driving force in its growth during adverse times.
- Procedures for Nomination:
- Any person may be nominated, in writing by individuals including family members, any club, association, or any source having knowledge sufficient to support a nomination on the grounds stated herein.
- All nominations must be in writing and must state the basis for nomination in as complete detail as the writer can set forth. The Committee determination will be based on the background, history, records and details set forth in such written nomination.
- Procedures for Election:
- The President of the TCGA shall appoint a committee for this purpose of consideration of nominations for election to the TCGA Hall of Fame. The committee shall include all officers of the TCGA and up to eight (8) other persons devoted to the game of golf. After elections to the Hall of Fame have been made, at least three (3) of the eight (8) committee appointees shall be members of the Hall of Fame.
- The committee shall vote on any nominations received, based on the qualifications set forth in the written nomination, a copy of which shall be distributed to all committee members within thirty (30) days after receipt by the secretary of the TCGA. The committee may vote at a meeting or by mail. Election requires a two-thirds vote of the committee.
- Any nominee who has been elected to the TCGA Hall of Fame will be notified in writing and shall be invited to an induction ceremony to be held at the Fall meeting of the TCGA. In the case of deceased electees, the next of kin shall so be invited.
- A nomination which has not received the necessary two-thirds vote may be resubmitted at any time thereafter.
