After being routed by the Syracuse District Golf Association in last year's inaugural Central New York Cup, the team representing the TCGA posted a 23 1/2-12 1/2 win Friday at Binghamton Country Club.
The TCGA lost last year's event, 16-8, but won this year's Cup on the strength of an 8-4 advatage in the afternoon singles matches.
David Branham of Norwich led the afternoon assault in the Ryder Cup-sytle event, winning 5-and-4 over Joe Tesori, head pro at Drumlin's in Syracuse. Branham's round was highlited by an eagle on the 320-yard, par-4 seventh hole. Branham holed a wedge shot from 114 yards.
Matt Abbott of Endwell helped the cause for the TCGA, posting a 3-0 match-play record. Included was a 5-iron shot on the 215-yeard 18th hole during best-ball play that hit the hole and stopped about two feet away. Abbott mad the short birdie putt and teamed with Vestal Hills pro Ron Dunham for a 1 up victory over Kevin Savage and Tom Urtz.

ALL BOYS GROUPS TOP 16 POINTS STANDING IN EACH AGE GROUP WILL QUALIFY. THE FOLLOWING RULES AND THE SEPARATE TCGA RULES SHEET COVER MOST SITUATIONS. IF A SITUATION IS NOT COVERED BY THESE RULES THE COMMITTEE OR ITS DESIGNEE WILL BE THE FINAL ARBITER. A LIST OF RULES WILL BE GIVEN TO EACH PLAYER AT THE FIRST TOURNAMENT IN WHICH THEY PLAY.
1. PLAYERS CANNOT SIGN UP UNTIL TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO EACH TOURNAMENT. IF YOU SIGN UP AND FIND YOU CANNOT PLAY IN THAT TOURNAMENT YOU MUST NOTIFY THE GOLF COURSE A MINIMUM OF (2) DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE TOURNAMENT OR FORFEIT YOUR RIGHT TO PLAY IN THE NEXT TOURNAMENT. ( THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.)
2.THE COURSES MAY LIMIT THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS IN THEIR TOURNAMENT. 3. THE ENTRY FEE WILL BE $5.00 FOR EACH TOURNAMENT WHICH INCLUDES GREENS FEE AND LUNCH. 4. BOYS MUST PLAY IN BOYS TOURNAMENTS AND GIRLS MUST PLAY IN GIRLS TOURNAMENTS ( NO GENDER CROSSING.) 5. ALL PLAYERS MUST WALK AND CARRY THERE OWN BAGS . NO CADDIES ALLOWED. 6. THE USE OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND\OR TOBACCO PRODUCTS IS EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN IN ALL AREAS OF THE GOLF COURSE. VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. 7. A PLAYER MUST PLAY IN AT LEAST TWO (2) QUALIFYING TOURNAMENTS AND BE IN THE TOP 16 BOYS OR TOP 8 GIRLS TO QUALIFY FOR POST SEASON PLAY. |

TCGA $500 Scholarship winners are:
Dan White of Hancock, NY
Dan plays at the Hancock Country Club, and plans on attending Methodist College
in North Carolina this fall.
Brooke
Stillman of Homer, NY
Brooke plays at Walden Oaks Country Club, and plans on attending Western
Carolina University in North Carolina this fall.
Peter
Yurko of Seton Catholic Central
Peter is a 4 year STAC Scholar Athlete, an Honor Student in every semester, and
ranked 10th in a class of 120.
He will be attending Mississippi State University in the fall in their Golf
Management program.
Mark Mrva
of Union - Endicott HS
Mark will be attending Fordham University in the fall. He finished second in the
Section 4 Championships in 1998, and was a five year player on his high school
team.
